MiniCapture FAQ

Q: Recording a sound coming from another applications or Internet
A: If the Record Sound option is checked but you can't record a sound coming from Internet or other applications, perhaps you sound card doesn't support "what you hear" recording.

Note: MiniCapture  enables record sound coming from microphone with any card without problems. The problems arise with streaming audio or with sound coming from other applications.
Our software supports only sound cards with the "what you hear" recording ability and can't emulate this feature. Maybe it will support those cards in future.

You can also try the following suggestions to solve this problem:

1) First of all make sure the Record Sound option on Video page is checked. Also check your sound card settings, especially the recording devices in the Control Panel/Multimedia applet. Check you mixer settings and volumes. If it still doesn't help go to the next tip.

2) Some sound cards may have a mixer control that allows you to map the audio to the microphone input. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Volume tab.
  2. Within the Device Volume group, click on the Advanced button. The Playback Control dialog box displays.
  3. Choose Options/Properties.
  4. In the Adjust Volume for group box, enable the Recording option.
  5. In the Show the following volume controls group box, choose Stereo Mix.
  6. Click OK. The Record Control dialog box displays.
  7. At the bottom of the Stereo Mix group box, enable the Select option.
  8. Close this dialog box.
  9. You will return to the Sounds and Audio Devices dialog box. Click OK to exit.

3) Consider using a special software like Virtual Audio Cable. It works fine with our software and many other programs! Trial version enables record three minutes of audio transfer. Registered version has no limitations.
Instructions: Go to the Control Panel / Sound & Multimedia/Audio and set the Play Device = Virtual Cable 1 Out and the Recording Device = Virtual Cable 1 In. Now you won't be able to hear a sound (because it will be redirected to the Virtual Cable instead of your sound card), but almost all programs will record it. No matter from what source it is coming! When the recording is finished set the Play Device back to your sound card to hear a sound again. That's all. < p > 4) Record the sound coming from your speakers. Position your microphone about 12 inches at the midway point between your computer抯 stereo speakers. Test the recording level, and then adjust the speaker volume as necessary.
Note: any noise that is present in the room will also be recorded.

5) Insert a jumper wire in the Line Out and Mic In jacks on your computer & sound card. If you do, you may wish to adjust the microphone gain by selecting Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio/Sound Playback/Volume/Playback Control/Options/Advanced Controls, or the audio may be slightly overamped and sound distorted.
Note: We don't recommend you to use a cable without a special adapter, because in a few cases it can damage your sound card.

6) Install a sound card that maps the audio to the microphone internally. Audigy Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Live! are a good choices. AC97 also works good.

Q: I see a 'black screen' when playing the result of recording
A: If you see a 'black screen' when playing the result file, You should run Minicapture before other application .

  1. Select Start/Programs/Creative/Sound Blaster Audigy/Surround Mixer
  2. Right click in the recording source (rec with red dot)
  3. Select What U Hear

Q: DivX codec doesn't work
A: Not all third-party codecs work properly with MiniCapture . We guarantee 100% working only for Microsoft Video 1 and Cinepack codecs. Other codecs may also work but may not work as well.

Q: Text is not legible
A: If text is not legible, select Uncompressed frames in the Video | Compressors combo box.
Any compressor makes a video worse.

Note: uncompressed frames can dramatically increase a size of video!
